SUNDAY SERMON SERIES – The Fire Within – Jeremiah 20:9

Many of you that have read articles that I’ve written know that I love to study and write about history. In today’s message I want to take us into the past and look at the answers that we can find to the problems our people face today. For a text today, I want us to look at Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak anymore in His name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut upin my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay. In order to understand the context, we need to read the whole chapter, feel free to read more.

20 Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house of the Lord, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. 2 Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the Lord. 3 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The Lord hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magormissabib. 4 For thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword. 5 Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon. 6 And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies. 7 O Lord, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me. 8 For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the Lord was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily. 9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay. 10 For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him. 11 But the Lord is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten. 12 But, O Lord of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause. 13 Sing unto the Lord, praise ye the Lord: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor from the hand of evildoers. 4 Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed. 15 Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad. 16 And let that man be as the cities which the Lord overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide; 17 Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me. 18 Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

Jeremiah, often referred to as “the weeping prophet”, was mocked and persecuted for preaching God’s word in Israel. He preached against the priests that were in power at that time. He was locked in the stocks for God’s word. Much like John was exiled to the isle of Patmos for the testimony and for the word of God.

It is often spoken today, that Christian folks are supposed to keep their faith to themselves. More specifically, we are told to keep our faith in our churches and out of our government. We need to refute that ideology, it has never worked and it has never ended well. The government, always threatens churches with taking away their 501 (c) (3) status, if they “preach a little to close to home”. Today in America, Christians are being targeted for ridicule, mocking, discounting our view points as, old fashioned, out of touch, dangerous, narrow minded, and hateful. This is propogated mostly by the government’s lap dog, the main stream media. [I think I’ve read about this before, Pilgrims?] I believe our ancestors came here to escape religious persecution. It has certainly become fashionable to be anti-christian. Now, ask yourself how? How has this happened? The government, has hijacked social issues and made them, political issues for personal gain. If it can be sold, it is for sell in Washington D.C. Power, influence, friendship, loyalty, you name it, it’s for sale. All the while, citizens are being sold down the river. So what do we as Christians do? We take them back! The issues are ours, not the government’s to gain power and set policy with. We can get it back. Jesus said: Matthew 23:27 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.” That’s the verse I think of when I see all the beautiful white architechture and think of how corrupt D.C. is. You may ask, are you talking about civil disobediance? Let me answer that by saying this, if you seen a homeless person would you help them, get them a bite to eat, give them your sandwich? Because that is the church’s charter, from God’s mouth to our ears. In Philidelphia, “the city of brotherly love” it is now illegal to feed the homeless. So yes, civil disobedience is a must. (That does not mean destroying public property or the use of violence)  That is a direct infringement by government on the first amendment of the U.S. Contitution. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” In fact, while were on the subject, what transfers these rights to government? Abdication, plain and simple. We the people have abdicated our God given right to self-govern ourselves and given it to the government. Why does the government have a right to attach a number to your existence? (SS#) Why does the government have the right hold in its bank account your retirment? (SS#) Why does the government have the right to know your health information? (Obamacare) Why does the government think they can rule on what is socially acceptable? (Gay marriage) Why does the government believe they can tell us what to eat? (Soda, Trans-fats) So on and so forth. Because we have abdicated it. We gave it away.

Things that we gave away, we can take back. We must start with God and true repentance. 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

We need to begin promoting the idea that it is not the government’s place to take care of citizens cradle to grave! We are Americans, we take care of ourselves.  Jesus said: Matthew 22:21… then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.”  We need to ask God to heal the divisions that this government uses to gain power over us. We need to ask God to raise up the church back to its rightful station, and return responsibility back to citizens. We have a lot of praying to do. We need, like Jeremiah, to weep for our current state of affairs and ask God to restore us. We need the fire back in our gut! There’s only one way to do that, the same way Jeremiah did, put so many Godly things into you that there’s no way you can keep your mouth shut about Him. Jeremiah said God’s word was like a fire shut up in his bones! We need that today, to share Jesus, unafraid, with authority and power! To tell and show people that God loves them, and He wants to do great and mighty things in their lives! We need to be on fire for God! If we fall, it will be due to Bible illiteracy. American newspaper publisher and abolisionist, Horace Greely (1811-1872) said:“It is impossible to enslave, mentally or socially, a bible-reading people. The principles of the bible are the groundwork of human freedom.” The founder of the Methodist church, John Wesley (1703-1791) said: “Catch on fire and others will love to come and watch you burn”! He also said “Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin, and desire nothing but God, and I care not a straw whether they be clergymen or laymen; such alone will shake the gates of hell and set up the kingdom of heaven on Earth.” You notice that he said laymen also. Never let’em tell you your just one person, you can’t turn this country around. That’s a lie straight from the pit of hell! God vested in Jesus the salvation of the whole world. To you small groups, the church started with eleven men in the upper room, so don’t let’em tell you that you can’t turn things around. It’s time for revival in the land. Tonight, when you lay down to sleep, say a prayer for our nation and its people, and ask God to set your heart and your mind on fire for Him, ask that you are filled with a new spirit that would drive you to win the lost, share Jesus, and restore the land.

If you don’t know Christ, today is your appointed day to meet him and accept his free gift of salvation. Pilate said, “what shall I do with this Jesus?” Ask yourself today, what should I do with this Jesus, accept or deny? Pilate denied him, and washed his hands of him, what will you do?

This is a wonderful song that helps us see through God’s eyes in our modern day.

Glenn Beck’s Restoring Love – Dallas, Texas – July 28th 2012

Glenn Beck has recently announced that he has chosen a theme song for Restoring Love in Dallas TX on July 28th 2012. The song is named “Hold us together” by Matt Maher. It is an uplifting song with very poignant lyrics. My wife and I initially had signed up for tickets to this event, however the economy is too slow for us to be able to make it there. We had spot number 667 in line for pre-buy tickets. We were able to attend Restoring Honor in Washington D.C. on August 28th, 2010 (which happened to be our 3rd year anniversary since the day we met). Below are some pictures of that event. SUNDAY SERMON SERIES – A Woman Taken In Adultery – John 8:1-19

St. Johns Gospel Chapter 8 "A wpman taken in adultery

The Gospel According to John 8:1-19

1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Jesus Lifts up the Woman

12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

This scripture has many lessons that we can take from it.  It is multi-faceted.  With the media ignoring the dangers of Islam, and slandering Christianity any chance they can. I figured the attempted stoning of the woman taken in adultery, was a great place to start this series that I will be writing on Sunday’s.

In this chapter, the Pharisee’s were already fed up with this one named Jesus. They were upset at the following that he was gaining. They were upset with the amount of power that it seemed like he was gaining in the temple. So like any Holier than thou “religious” person, the Pharisee’s (who were legalists) gathered together the modern day equivalent of attorneys, the “Scribes” and decided they would go out into the court of the Temple and put Jesus in his place. They were trying their best to trap him in a religious word trap, using the law of Moses. They brought to him the woman taken in adultery (interesting how they couldn’t find her male adultery partner, so he could face his stoning…) and demanded of him, a judgement on her guilt and the execution of the law. Not realizing they had brought the woman to the one who was with his Father when the law was handed down to Moses.  The legalists are those who want to cast down those who have fallen short, and the Pharisees were especially talented at looking down their nose at those around them. So when they brought her to him, they of course remind him of the law and asks “well what are we to do with her”? I love the reaction Christ returned, he just knelt and wrote on the ground, I’ve often wondered what it was that he wrote. Of course they pressed the question, until he finally gave him an answer they never seen coming, “He, that is among you, cast the first stone”. They forgot who they were talking to, he knew the hearts of every person gathered there that day. They also didn’t recognize him as the one who could forgive sins, and as it says in Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. His sacrifice would soon put a bookend on the fulfillment of the law of Moses.  That day, there in the Temple court, Jesus saved that womans life. Not only can he save a person for eternity, he can save a person by his forgiveness, and his redirection, repentance. He told the woman, after all the stones had been dropped to the ground, “Go, Sin no more”. She is not the only one he said this to, he said it to many of his followers throughout the Gospels.

Isn’t that the miracle-working power of God?! He took that womans worst day, she was to be stoned to death. But, God set her free from her condemnation, and the terrible death she was about to face. I think that will preach.

After she left, the Pharisees were not finished with Jesus. He had told them He was the light of the world, and they that walked after him would never walk in darkness. To which they said that Christ was bearing his own witness, and It was not true. (After all the miracles, all the works of His Father, some still would not see.) Then after setting them straight on the stoning, He set them straight on a doctrinal issue. He said to them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.  And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me. Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

Many folks misunderstand the difference between law of the Old Testament, and Grace that Jesus brought in the New Testament. It really hinges around the Matthew 5:17 verse. When Jesus explained that he was not come to destroy the law, or the prophets: but He had come to fulfill the law. Which absolutely does not  mean that we take advantage of Christ and sin knowingly, the Bible says that we crucify Him afresh if we do that. His grace toward us is that while we were yet sinners, he died for us, and when he saved or healed someone he would say “Go, Sin no more.” With the help of the Holy Spirit we can have victory over sin in this life, by studying Gods word, and Prayer. All things were fulfilled in the crucifixion of Christ.

4:48 Minutes, That Will Change You Forever

Fifth-grader Matt Woodrum hangs out with his friends. His you tube video of him running the 400 meter race has went viral, he has cerebral palsy.

Phillipians 4:13
Authorized King James Version 1611 (KJV)
“I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me.”

Remember the name Matt Woodrum; the next time the Devil has you down and tells you “you can’t do it!” Matt is a fifth-grader at a school in the school district that my wife and I live in, Worthington City Schools. He attends Worthington Colonial Elementary School, in Worthington, Ohio. This child shows a level of strength and courage, almost un-matched in this age. Even with his disability, he resolved that he was going to compete in the recent field day at the school. He was offered a place on the sideline, he simply said, “no”. He not only said, “no”, he said, “I’m competing in the 400 meter race.” From that point on, he was not turning back, no retreat, no surrender! Matt struggles with every step, but with every step he seems to dig even deeper and becomes even more determined to finish.

The song that was picked to accompany the video is spot on “Eye of the Tiger” of Rocky fame. As Matt is competing and falling behind, his classmates begin to appear (what seems like from everywhere) and begin to cheer him on, and then begin to gather around him, flanking him off the left and right to run alongside their friend.
Matt’s gym teacher, John Blain, said

His run wasn’t about crossing the finish line. Rather, the important thing is that Matt chose to run when he didn’t have to, knowing that it wouldn’t be easy.“ Our society has gotten away from that, but these kids loved the way he played that race,” Blaine said. “It was a great victory because he ran it with honor.”

You can see from watching the video, Matt and his gym teacher have a great relationship. He runs with Matt to encourage him.

Here are some quotes from Matt’s mother, Anne, fellow students, and Matt himself:

Matt’s mother, Anne Curran, said she wasn’t surprised that her determined son finished the race.

“But when the kids came to join him, that was the real moment of inspiration that obviously made me and everybody cry,” she said. “Seeing him through to the end and cheering his name was just a priceless moment.” excerpt from the Columbus Dispatch

“I want people to know Matt can do anything,” said 10-year-old Jazmin Williams. “We didn’t have the guts to do the race, but he did it.” excerpt from the Columbus Dispatch
Matt paused for a few seconds when asked what he wants the people around the world watching his video to know.
“Just because you’re disabled doesn’t mean you can’t try,” he said. excerpt from the Columbus Dispatch
One commenter on the video said “restored my faith in humanity.”

This story has garnered national and worldwide acclaim. The school has received notes from Hong Kong Croatia, and when principal Henk DeRee turned on his tv, there the school and Matt was, on NBC’S The Today Show.

Here are a few local comments from the article in the Columbus Dispatch:

Sharon Mason (girlscout)
“I saw that on 10tv this morning as I was getting ready for work. I sat there and cried. Oh what a wonderful sight to see. Matt had the guts to run and the classmates did not want him to run alone. Restores my faith in the future of our country. Congrats Matt. You are my hero”

Military Dad (rparker6491)
“My children all attended Colonial Hills. It is a great school, wirth great teachers, and administrators. Ther community supports the schools, who in return, who support the community. A lot of the teachers live in the neighborhood. This is the kind of school we need more of and yes, every time a levy came up I voted for it. Just look at the results!”

Paul Wade (yogiman)
“This is the best show I have seen on internet since it began. Let’s hope we’re getting a more original breed of children today.”
2012-06-01 16:57:58.0

After watching the video and your done wiping your eyes, say a little prayer for this child and his family, and pray that his story inspires many more people to follow in his footsteps of strength.

2 Corinthians 12:9
Authorized King James Version 1611 (KJV)
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Isaiah 40:28-31
Authorized King James Version 1611 (KJV)
28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

TSA – Decides to Stop Groping Granny

Read; then let this seer into your mind for a while.

The year was 1692, the place was Salem Village, Massachusetts. At the zenith of the Witch Trials in our country, people were scared to death of their neighbors for fear that they would be accused of being a witch. They were terrified they would be arrested, tried, convicted of being a witch and then subsequently hanged. A great commotion was started by a group of little girls and their accusations against a slave woman named, Tituba. The little girls were exhibiting strange behavior, convulsions and the doctor of the village could see no natural cause for the affliction. The girls of Salem Village, had to be under the spell of a witch or worse yet, witches.

You! You are GUILTY!!!

I have given you a synopsis of the story of the witch trials because something amazing and wonderful happened out of those terrible trials. A shift happened. A shift of the burden of proof needed to convict someone beyond a reasonable doubt. History tells us, that when accused of a crime, the law said that the burden of proof was on the accused. However, at the end of the witch trials this was transferred to the prosecution. This is to say that at one point, if accused, you would have to prove that you were innocent of the indictment, that was your burden. After the trials, if you were accused of a crime, those who indicted you, had to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you were guilty of the charges. Now it was their burden. No more were you presumed guilty until you proved your innocence, you were presumed innocent until the State proved you were guilty. This premise is what our system is built on, it impacts the writ of habeas corpus and the right to a fair and speedy trial.

Now ask yourself, are you guilty, or is there probable cause to search you for entering a certain area in an airport? Who has the right to search your ‘person’ for merely being in an area of a building. What’s even worse, you are not only searched, now you are “seen” naked through the airport scanners or felt up by some TSA pervert. You might think that is rough but I was raised being told that no one had the right to touch my body, unless I give it to them. The government, using the TSA, Homeland Security, and the Patriot act has turned 320 years of legal precedent on its ear. They have groped granny, pulled out colostomy bags, humiliated cancer patients, touched children in inappropriate places, imagine if a parent done to their child what the TSA now calls a duty, the parent who touched their child would be jailed for gross sexual imposition of a minor! It is disgusting how we are being treated for merely wanting to take part in the convenience of flying on an airplane from one place to another. All because 19 Saudi Arabian radical Islamists decided to use jet airplanes full of fuel as weapons against our countrymen. So now we endure the death of the 4th amendment, as we “disrobe” through the airport scanner, take our shoes and belts off, carry “approved fluids” in “approved bottles” using “approved methods”. It is MADNESS!

We should all wear it as a badge of honor! We will NOT comply!

The good news is we are slowly rolling back their power by our protest and righteous indignation. The spokesperson for the TSA, David Castelveter, has recently released news that the TSA has rethought their stance on strip searching granny and grandpappy, they’re going to relax restrictions on all air travelers over the age of 75. Any one want to join me in a sarcastic “thank you, TSA!?”. Imagine, the government telling you, we’re going to “slow up” on trampling your Constitutional rights. People everywhere should be outraged! They’re going to stop doing something that they should have never done in the first place, no more groping granny! Well it’s about time pervs!

Now how about keeping your hands off the rest of us!

Kirk Cameron’s Monumental Movie Project

Super Powers have risen and fallen. History has shown all nations go through times that are good and bad. The nations who were able to correct their course before they went off a cliff are far and few between. In order to restore any nation you have to diagnose when or where that nation started to “go off the tracks”. Kirk Cameron, father of 6 children and outspoken Christian has been working on a documentary project called “Monumental”. In the documentary he traces Americas roots all the way back to our beginnings. Not 1776, but hundreds of years earlier, into other nations, to our origins where the dream of America started.

I love the movie “Gladiator” with Russell Crowe. I especially love the quote that Ceaser, Marcus Aurelius said to Maximus, “there once was a dream that was Rome, you could only whisper it, anything more and it would vanish.” He was speaking to how fragile the nation was. Many of us who are conservative understand the same about our freedoms. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, freedom is not an inheritance, it has to be worked toward and for. Each generation has to toe the line.

The DVD of “Monumental” can be purchased on the Monumental Movie website. At $15.00, it is a steal, considering it costs (for two) $35.00-45.00 currently to watch a movie in a theatre.

Enjoy the trailers, and check out the website. Find the diagnosis and prescription for our nation, and help it prosper.
